Review Gothtronic
The band Feu Follet consist of no other than the founder of Einzeleneinheit, Tobias Fischer. He was introduced to the music of Christoph Heeman’s Mirror and Stephen Stapelton’s Nurse with Wound when he met Mirko Uhlig. Helping with the preparations of two live sets for Aalfang mit Pferdekopf which is Mirko’s project this music came along. After Fischer heard the sweets of Mirror and Nurse with Wound he came possessed with the same virus which the men behind these projects all have. He decided to transform his idea’s into music and sounds. The world should have been a different place if he had his way but he released his debut Toi et Son.
Toi et le Son mean something like You and the Tone, but it can mean something completely different as well. My French isn’t quite up to date and the internet translators can’t be trusted with some simple phrases. The album consists of two long tracks, drones to be more specific. Tobias Fischer tried to translate the complexity of Nurse with Wound and Mirror into his own creations and sounds. Keeping in mind what sounds easy is more difficult than it seems, Fischer succeeds in creating a reflection of classic drones. Electronic sounds which drift away into a peaceful finale. The drones of Fischer embrace you like a warm blanket, a cup of tea in the sunshine of winter. It feels like coming home after a long walk in the cold.
At first it’s a very amusing and fresh, but after a while the freshness start getting stale. The drones become predictable as Fischer treads on the familiar paths. It’s becomes clear he listened quite good to Mirror and Nurse with Wound, but he can’t succeed in finding his way onto a new platform. A new sound. But I have to say the design of the cover is really beautiful and with this Feu Follet deserves enough points for a good grade.
