Interview with Robert Neiteler on his upcoming Soloalbum

_Hi! How are you? Where are you? _
Right now, I am sitting in my study, printing some manuscripts!

_Is it true that this was supposed to be a Drum n Bass album, but you just couldn't get things right?_
Yes! I mean, I could lie, but it's true! Which is not to say I don't like what's on the disc!

_
Some artists started with music, because they couldn't get the kind of music they wanted in a shop. Is it the same with you? _
No, not really. My music comes into being, simply because I want to make music. And the music turns out this way, because some parameters, such as abilities, talent, technical equipment, samples and software know-how work together in a certain way.

_
In your pieces, you splinter beats and shatter structures, just to build everything up again. Are you a creator or a destructor? _
I rather see myself as a creator. (the rest of the answer is absolutely impossible to translate into English)

_Even though you still have a lot of extreme noise records in your collection, your own pieces are far more structured. Any idea, why?_
I didn't actually know they were that structured... it's probably because this production method, with software synthesizers, enables one to easily organise everything. Tracks like these can not be created live. Besides, I am totally contaminated by rational engeneer-like thinking.

What's the source of the samples used on the album?
30% are self-recorded, 50% were taken from sowhere on my pc, some pc-mags and Sample CD´s, 20% derive from Software Synthies.

_If you were to stumble into a club and they'd be playing one of your pieces, would you dance to it? _
If I were in the mood for dancing and if you could actually dance to that specific tracks, yes!

_There are some passages on the album, where there is nothing but rhythm. Was this music always conceived with the dancefloor in your head? _
Yes, except for, I think, track five.

How much of your music is coincidence, how much is planned? How often do you sit down with a clear vision of how you want things to sound like?
When I start, it's mostly coincidence, until the first loops are up and running. Once I start to add sounds, I know how things should sound like. Sometimes, I have some concepts for tracks in my mind - but they're only concepts on how to construct the track, they have nothing to do with what you'll hear.

_
Some believe the einzeleinheit CD package is a washing rag. What do you see in it? _
It's fine for dusting the floor as well.

_It has come to our attention that musicwise, you have absolutely nothing in common with your lovely room mates, which sometimes leads to some tensions. Would you, for peace's sake and just to make them happy, record and release a record with Independent rock? _
No.
